Lent: The Best Diet?

Over the past 30 odd days I have followed the traditional Lent fastings of my Christian upbringing.
Do I do it to appease my Great Grandma who probably turns at least once a day in her grave at my life or to justify my parents spending thousands of dollars on my religious education? I am afraid it all comes down to the fact that Lent is and always has been the best diet formula ever.

No meats on Fridays so you substitute it with corn meat or baked fish and loads of vegetables. no eating in between meals so no snacking on chocolate, crisps, and all those fun things you didn't realise you had in the fridge till you want a midnight snack. and no pop or fizzy drinks to retain water.

After working a night shift however on Saturday I walked into Sainsbury's (London's equivalent of the Giant Eagle minus the Eagle Nest. England has not caught on to the phenomenon yet of leaving your children to play video games while you shop and could be teaching them valuable things such as how to effectively budget shop and healthy eating.) and there it was. my best friend. and nemesis. Diet Coke. On sale never the less.....Diet Coke has not been on a proper sale since the VAT increase. It was like a sign. The bottle looked bigger. the label even shinier than I had remembered....So I bought 4 2L bottles and consumed my own body weight in aspartame and sweeteners....

So after 30 days a mere ten or so short. How have I managed on my Lenten Diet?
10 pounds down!

Coming to America in 5 weeks has been the biggest push to lose weight. Lent was merely the backbone behind it to get the ball moving. I know after a mere 2 or 3 days in the states will result in binge eating. upset stomach. and major weight fluctuation. so I figure if I lose a bit before I go Ill still be able to button my jeans when I come back!

Till I write again.

I thought I would jump on the Blog band wagon, three years after everyone else...

A little over 6 months ago I permanently moved from Youngstown, Ohio to London.

It has been a huge jump from  driving on 224 to dealing with rush hour traffic on  roads half the size of your car... did I mention every hour is rush hour by the way?

I work varying day and night shifts for HFH Consulting as personal assistant and thought that writing a blog, even just for my own amusement and reading pleasure, would help pass the time on my long night shifts.

I live with my husband Matt and our dog Rosie in Richmond, zone 4 of London...so yes I dont live in central London but im only 7 miles away and trust me the traffic lines up all the way out here to get in and out!

This morning I woke up to my surprise of sun creeping in through our bedroom window. I have learned that when the sun comes out in England, you drop everything that you are doing regardless as to how important it is and go out and enjoy the sun. It is a well known fact the UK is not known for its weather, but I would like to defend it. Because of the continuous haze of moisture that seems to endlessly fall upon us everyday the world is so green. On the rare occasion that the sun is out in all its glory the world is a green wonderland. Without all the rain, this country wouldn't be half as beautiful.

After being greeted by Mother Nature's beautiful warm raze, I decided it was high time that I got out of bed and enjoy it (yes, when I say drop everything that includes beauty sleep!)

I knocked on our neighbor Anya's door to see if she wanted to have coffee with me in the back garden. Anya is a 55 year old Polish widow, who over the past 6 months has become mine and Matt's best friend in London. She lights up the room as soon as she steps into it.

Anya recently received a brand new cappuccino maker as a gift and it is her new favorite toy. She has it brewing at all hours of the day and uses it for all occasions. Two pots of coffee later, Anya and I prepared a brunch for Matt and our friend Randall who has been staying with us the past few days. The four of us enjoyed brunch in the back garden, but by the end our beautiful sunshine was taken away by the ever looming clouds and we had to pack it in before the rain drizzled against the lawn umbrella that was keeping us in the shade.

Randall left for Wokingham in the mid afternoon and Matt and I ended the evening with sweet and sour chicken before I left for my night shift this evening....

I know that the words that I have just written were not inspiring or life altering, but I think this is a great way for me to remember my times here in London and for people back in my hometown to keep tabs on my daily (semi-weekly more likely) updates on my life and how I am fairing in this strange place "across the pond."

I apologize that the title has beyond spelled beyonf. I am not the world's greatest typer and missed this fatal error and now cant figure out how to fix it...
